Thanks to the generosity of the Giang family, Monash Health have been able to purchase a NeedleTrainer and ScanNav for the busy Anaesthesia Department at Dandenong Hospital.
The system, the first of its kind uses a retractable needle and has the ability to add virtual image overlays to simulate needling in a non-invasive manner on a live patient.
The NeedleTrainer is especially important when it comes to regional anaesthesia, which is the process of using local anaesthetics and placing it precisely using ultrasound in the right places.
L-R Dr Anjali Dhulia, Mr Alan Saunder, Dr Cassandra Andrews, Dr Sharon Jarvis, Dr Inamul Rahiman with the new equipment.
The benefits of this include patients being able to emerge from an unconscious state experiencing less pain, a clearer head and reduced likelihood of nausea and vomiting – ultimately leading to shorter recovery period.
On behalf of the clinicians and patients at Dandenong Hospital, we would like to extend our gratitude to the Giang family, who so generously donated in memory of their family member, Ngoc Giang, in order to fund the equipment.
