On Wednesday 5 June the Foundation hosted our inaugural Donor Appreciation event, ‘Hope Grows with You’ at Melbourne’s historic Athanaeum Theatre and the Melbourne Athenaeum Library. The event brought together 200 donors, volunteers and supporters of Monash Health to celebrate gratitude and hope.
Guests heard from a patient family, the Schroders, with Hollie and her son Hunter, sharing how and why they chose to raise funds for Monash Children’s Hospital. Hunter, a patient at Monash Children’s Hospital and the cover star of our Summer 2023 edition of Momentum, inspired everyone with his dedication in organising a community fundraiser that raised $5,000 for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) research.
Patrick Tessier, a dedicated supporter and close friend of the Foundation, shared his heart-rending personal story of tragedy intertwined with triumphant hope, as he recounted the last four weeks of his son Bailey’s brave struggle against brain cancer. After young Bailey passed away, Patrick and his family were inspired to create Bailey’s Day, an annual fundraiser that has now raised over $4.3 million to fund 21 research fellow positions specialising in treating paediatric brain cancers.
The evening concluded with a spectacular musical showcase from the talented ‘Eclective Strings.’ The string quartet played a special curated playlist of modern hits played in classical style surrounded by hundreds of flickering candles, creating a sensory delight for all guests.
