Festive message from Ron Fairchild, Director, Monash Health Foundation

There’s no doubt that 2021 has been a tough year for many of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to present challenges and opportunities for Monash Health and the Monash Health Foundation.

While our colleagues – nurses, doctors, allied health professionals and non-clinical employees – have been working extremely hard responding to COVID-19 and delivering excellent patient care, you have continued to support their work through your generous donations. Your gifts are most appreciated.

Philanthropy has helped enhance the work of Monash Health in many ways, and today the role of donors has never been more important. Your gifts are directed towards vital equipment, research projects, training, and patient and family-centred initiatives. Your generosity helps ensure that we provide exceptional patient care, teaching and research.

Highlights

One of the highlights of the year from my perspective was the launch of the Moose Imagination Tree. After many years of dedication and collaboration from two major partners, Moose Toys and The Walt Disney Company, the Foundation held a special event in April to officially open the Moose Imagination Tree. Monash Health Chief Executive Andrew Stripp hosted the proceedings which included guest speakers Paul Solomon, Co-CEO of Moose Toys, Kylie Watson-Wheeler, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand and the Hon Martin Foley, Victorian Minister for Health.

The Foundation’s new committee, the Friends of Monash Health, held two events this year – a Garden Lunch and a ‘Christmas in July’. Chaired by Dame Janet Spooner DGSJ OAM, the initial focus of the committee is raising funds for the new paediatric emergency department at our Clayton site which will be officially opened in 2022. It is wonderful to see the new ED coming to life, with major works currently underway on the façade, entryway and access roads.

In the major gifts space, our special thanks go to Coles, their team members and customers. Through the national Curing Homesickness initiative, Coles has made significant donations to Monash Children’s Hospital and programs and equipment that help children get home faster. Coles’ customers provide support through the purchase of $2 donation cards and by buying products from the ‘Mum’s Sause’ range.

Thank you and Season’s Greetings

My very best wishes for you and your loved ones for a safe and happy festive season and new year. Thank you for your continuing support and I look forward to keeping you up to date in 2022.
