Mum’s Jam launches at Monash Children’s Hospital

Last week, the Monash Health Foundation hosted the teams from Hospitals United for Sick Kids (HUSK) and Coles Group for a morning tea in the Monash Children’s Hospital atrium to celebrate the launch of ‘Mum’s Jam’ – the newest addition to the ‘Mum’s’ range at Coles Supermarkets.

The partnership between HUSK and Coles has raised over $7 million for the Australia-wide alliance of children’s hospitals since its inception in 2019, vastly improving the hospital experience for so many young people faced with both short and long-term admissions.

The Monash Children’s Hospital and HUSK alliance focuses on funding projects that improve hospital experience and patient recovery; reduce hospital stays; enable treatment at home and help prevent hospital admissions.

Those passing through the atrium were treated to samples of either raspberry or strawberry Mum’s Jam on their choice of pikelet or scone, with the team handing out more than 100 delicious treats throughout the morning.

The Coles and HUSK teams were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at Monash Children’s Hospital as they were taken on a tour to further enhance their understanding of why the HUSK alliance is so important.

Nurse Unit Manager of Monash Children’s Hospital’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Lauren showed the teams the newly developed mural that helps parents and their children understand what equipment may be used to look after their child.

This mural, the first of its kind, has been developed and installed thanks to HUSK funds and will be rolled out across the different wards, with each mural being slightly different as they are customised to suit the equipment and procedures unique to that ward. This is just one of the ways HUSK is making hospital less daunting for even the smallest of patients.

Next time you’re in need of a sweet treat, grab yourself a jar of Mum’s Jam – with 50 cents from every jar going directly to HUSK to fund projects such as the PICU mural, you know you’re having a positive impact on families and children as they navigate the challenges of being in hospital.
